Medical Marijuana
Medical Marijuana is a treatment that is now available in New York for several conditions including chronic pain, PTSD, seizures, muscle spasms and spasticity, nausea, and weight loss or wasting related to chronic disease.
To qualify for medicinal marijuana in NY, you must be diagnosed with one of the following conditions:
- Chronic Pain
- PTSD
- Neuropathy
- Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
- Cancer
- HIV/AIDS
- Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
- Parkinson’s Disease
- Spinal Cord Inury
- Epilepsy
- Crohn’s Disease (IBD)
- Ulcerative Colitis (IBD)
- Huntington’s Disease
Patients must also have one of the following associated symptoms:
- Severe or Chronic Pain
- Severe Nausea
- Seizures
- Cachexia or Wasting Syndrome (weight loss)
- Severe or Persistent Muscle Spasms
What does it cost to be evaluated?
$250 for all new patients
$150 for follow up visits

What is the cost for the medical marijuana?
Does every patient who is seen get medical marijuana?
No. Every patient is given an evaluation to see if they qualify and if it is safe for them to receive medical marijuana. Every patient receives a medical opinion regarding suitability for medical marijuana, possible benefits, side effects, and alternative treatments that might be helpful.
Some patients, who qualify for marijuana with may be unable to receive medical marijuana due to a contraindication (an example would be a pregnant patient). Sometimes the doctor requires additional documents to be provided. See our checklist for commonly required documents.

What documents should I bring to my visit?
The doctor needs to review documentation from other providers that establish a diagnosis. The type of documentation required varies by the type of diagnosis and complaint, but often requires a recent note that lists a diagnosis and prior treatments. If these documents are not available or if additional information is required, then the doctor may provide you with an additional form to be completed by your physician before you are certifed for Medical Marijuana.

- Electrographic study reports (Neuropathy – EMG, Epilepsy – EEG)
- Imaging reports (MRI, CT scan, PET scan)
- Pathology reports
